Vaccination for Children from (0 to 10 years)

Vaccination for Children from 0 to 10 years
-By Dr. Megha Shah.

Our child is a blessing from God so is a vaccine in a child’s life, as it helps the child protection against diseases like mumps, measles, whooping cough, meningitis, polio, and many others. But, it’s a sad truth that in India, still many kids die due to these diseases preventable by vaccines. That’s why Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, initiated Mission Indradhanush to spread awareness about vaccination in rural areas. So, what is a vaccine? A vaccine is nothing but a mild or killed form of microbe in the form of a virus or bacteria which is injected into the body to help the body learn to recognize it and fight against it if it enters later in the child’s life.

Other Vaccines are
  • Varicella which protects from chickenpox, 1st dose is given between 12-15 months of age and the second dose is given between 4-6 years of age.
  • Pneumococcal Conjugate which protects from pneumonia, meningitis, and bacteremia, 3 primary doses at 6, 10, 14 weeks is given, one booster dose between 15-18 months.

Importance of vaccination
  • We always want our child to be healthy, vaccination is the best tool that protects a child’s life from deadly diseases. So, we should never miss a vaccine and if we do, we should consult our doctor if rescheduling is possible.
  • In case of an epidemic in the country, the vaccinated children will be safe and can prevent the spreading of preventable diseases.
  • Children who are not vaccinated can spread diseases to others who cannot be vaccinated like elderly and persons with low immunity like cancer patients.
  • Vaccination can prevent our child from many dangerous ailments like amputation of arm or leg, hearing loss, paralysis, and polio.
  • Many schools and playgroups have made it mandatory to get their child vaccinated to get admission, which is a good initiative to eliminate these deadly diseases.
  • World Health Organisation (WHO) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) also promote and spread awareness of giving vaccination to each and every child.
  • Some infectious diseases can come to the home country from other countries through immigrants so, if a child is vaccinated, we rest assured that the infection will not spread.
Though vaccinations are painful, we as a parent should never avoid it and try to face it by supporting our child through using motivating language and standing by their side to comfort them. So, hope all our parents got a basic idea about the vaccination schedule and their importance. R For  Rabbit wishes every child be blessed with good health and life full happiness, innocence and naughtiness!!
